Year 9 and 10

All students follow a core curriculum in Years 9 and 10 and in addition, select a number of pathway choices for each semester. The program allows students to further develop in areas of their own choosing and helps them to make decisions about their future learning pathways.

The core subjects in Years 9 and 10 are:

  • Religious Education
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Humanities
  • Science
  • Physical Education / Health

Pathway choices are offered in the following areas:

  • Physical Education
  • Science
  • Design and Technology - Food, Textiles, Wood, Metal , Electronics, Energy Breakthrough Team
  • Visual and Performing Arts - Art, Media, Visual Communication, Drama, Music
  • Languages Other Than English (LOTE) - French, Indonesian

In addition, students have the opportunity to enrol in VETiS (Vocational Education and Training in Schools) courses that link to and enhance employment opportunities.

Vocational Education Training in Schools (VETiS)

VETiS courses can be undertaken as part of the VCE or VCAL programs. In some cases, the courses are offered outside the College for half a day, generally on a Tuesday or Thursday. VETiS involves both training and workplace experiences. A student on successful completion would normally gain, in addition to their VCE or VCAL, a nationally accredited qualification.

Damascus College Ballarat is an active member of the Highlands Local Learning and Employment Network and the Highlands VETiS Cluster. These affiliations enable Damascus students the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of industry specific programs.
