Damascus Student to Perform National Anthem at ANZAC Day
Year 7 Student Olivia S will be joining her family in Gippsland this year for ANZAC Day. Olivia has been invited to sing both the Australian and New Zealand National Anthems again. Last year she was surprised to see more than 600 people attended the services.
Olivia’s mum Rana said “It means a lot to the elderly in the community who attend the services to see Olivia as many were friends with her Great Grandad Jack”. Jack was a POW of the Japanese during World War 2 and was forced to work on the building of the infamous Burma Railway.
Being invited to sing is special to Olivia as it helps her remember and honour some very special men in her life. Her Great Grandad, Grandad and Dad who all served in the Army for New Zealand.
