Damascus College announces Timor Leste Immersion 2016
After five brilliant years 2011-15, Damascus College is pleased to announce that an Immersion to Timor Leste is planned for June 2016.
Our sister school, Santa Maria in Ainaro in Timor Leste, is once more ready to have students come to visit with a view to share skills in English language and now computing. In 2015, 14 computers were carried across the Timor Sea by immersion team members. In the past five years the English skills of the Ainaro community have grown exponentially. This is not simply as a result of the annual visit but because past students including Anna Haintz, Jessica Corden, Elle-Louise Smith and Shelby Sherritt have returned for extended stays in Ainaro as part of a gap year following Year 12. Ballarat also provides ongoing English classes through the local Teachers for Timor Initiative. It is what the community in Timor Leste have asked of us. Ballarat and Damascus College are delivering.
2015 Immersion students have been speaking with Year 10 classes last week and expressions of interest are due following the public meeting for interested families to be held next Monday 3rd August in the Undercroft at Damascus College at 5:30 – 6:30 pm.
