2019 Music Opportunity
The ABC are currently airing a documentary every Sunday evening about how music education benefits every child in so many different ways. The series is called ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ and follows the decision by Challis Primary School in Perth to adopt music education as a primary focus in their school curriculum. It is an interesting look at what music does neurologically to our brains and how it influences learning but also the many social and emotional benefits that are experienced by our children.
At Damascus College we offer the opportunity for students to engage in music in the classroom but also through learning an instrument as part of our Instrumental Music program. We are now seeking Expressions of Interest for 2019. Offering most instruments from strings, brass and woodwind to voice, guitar, piano and drums / percussion, the program enables students to come to a specialised lesson on a rotational basis each week during school hours.
The program is well supported by College staff and leadership and it’s benefits are widely acknowledged by the school community. An information brochure can be downloaded here which contains more detailed information regarding the program. The Expression of Interest form on the back of this brochure needs to be returned to the front office by MONDAY DEC 3rd after which Letters of Offer / Confirmation will be mailed out to families.
