Sharing the Love

On Monday April 16 Principal Matt Byrne and Damascus College welcomed visitors from the Klibur Domin, Ryder-Cheshire Foundation and Timor Leste.

Since 2005 Damascus College has nurtured a relationship with the Ballarat Friends of Ainaro Sister Schools Program. In 2011 Damascus ran its inaugural Immersion Program to Timor-Leste for a group of Year 11 students to visit the College’s sister school, Santa Maria College in Ainaro.

In appreciation for the fundraising that was done last year, Sr Joacquim Soares presented a certificate to Mr Tony Haintz and the 2018 Immersion students. Joaquim is the Director of the Ryder-Cheshire Health Facility named Klibur Domin (which means in Tetum ‘sharing the love’). The facility is situated about 20km west of Dili in Timor-Leste and was set up in 1999 by Ryder-Cheshire.

Also in attendance were Sra Fabiola dos Santos (General Manager Klibur Domin), Mr Mike Moignard, (President Ryder-Cheshire Foundation Victoria), his wife Dr Kathy Moingard, Lucy Xavier from Ainaro who is having her Gap Year at Ballarat Grammar School as well as Dianne McGrath and Andy Naus from Ballarat Support Group
