Junior Girls Hockey Team Fall Just Short

With only 7 players against a Grammar team with the full 11 on the field and a further 3 on the bench the Damascus girls looked to be in for a tough night. However the fitness, grit and determination of our girls shone through, as Grammar’s superior numbers saw them push forward time and again with chance after chance after chance, our girls calmly rebuffed every attacking play they could muster. Surviving multiple penalty corners and circle entries without conceding, until nearing half time, Grammar managed to crack the, as yet impenetrable, combination of Full-back Ella Young (on her Damascus debut) and Goalkeeper Kiarna Perry.

After the break Damascus Centre-Forward Jasmine McKay came within inches of tying the game 1 ALL after carrying the ball 50m through the entire Grammar defence, but fell at the last hurdle with the scores remaining 1 – 0. Midway through the second half Grammar again managed to break through for a lucky goal and that was the last either team troubled the scorers.
