Copyright

Staff and students are expected to adhere to the National Copyright Guidelines as recommended by the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria.

This information was sent to school principals on 24th November 2008:

“The National Copyright Unit (NCU) is a specialist copyright team responsible for copyright policy and administration for Australian schools and TAFE. It advises and supports the Copyright Advisory Group (CAG), a committee of the Schools Resourcing Taskforce (SRT) of the Australian Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA). CAG members include government schools and the TAFE sector as well as most Catholic and independent schools in Australia. Under the Australian Constitution, copyright is a federal responsibility while education is managed by the states and territories.

CAG ensures co-ordination and co-operation between the states and territories in relation to copyright as a national issue. To assist schools in the management of copyright the NCU has recently completed a major upgrade of the Smartcopying website. This website is a great source of information on copyright in schools and provides a Frequently Asked Questions section that addresses most questions schools would have regarding the copying activities schools are allowed to undertake within the schools’ licences.”
