Outdoor Camps
At Damascus College Ballarat the camping and outdoor education program is designed to give students a variety of outdoor experiences, and to build skills of responsibility, organisation and teamwork. Camps are run in Years 7, 8 and 9.
Year 7
The students experience a one night team building camp in a town nearby. The camp is held early in Term One and allows students to join in activities that promote friendship and a identity with the College.
Year 8
Students in Year 8 attend a camp at "Burnside", Anglesea for three days (two nights) during Term Two. The camp includes various activities including canoeing, surfing and bush/beach walks.
Year 9
Students are provided with an opportunity to experience wilderness-style camping within the Otway Ranges in Southern Victoria. Students carry packs and hike between five different base camp locations, each campsite having a distinct environment. Students are accompanied by a teacher, parent helper and an accredited outdoor education instructor. Small group emphasis ensures that students support one another through preparing meals and working as a team.
