Building Better Learning

Damascus College Ballarat has been fortunate to receive $350,000 in capital grants from the State Government to improve their facilities.  The allocation was part of a $15 million capital grants package for 48 Victorian Catholic and independent schools announced by State Education Minister Bronwyn Pike.  Damascus College will use the funds on the refurbishment of its performing arts centre.  Damascus College performing arts co-ordinator Geoff Martin said the funding would help cater for the influx of students into performing arts at the school.  "With more students involved in the school's productions and plays we need new facilities that can meet that demand".  Ballarat East MLA Geoff Howard said the funds would provide a boost for the school and local construction.  "It's great to see the drama facilities improved in a school that does have such a great drama program," Mr Howard said.  Mr Howard said while he expected the funding would not be a one-off, a decision on whether such allocations would be made annually had not been reached. (taken from article in 'The Ballarat Courier' August 5th 2009.
