At Damascus College the camping and outdoor education program is designed to give students a variety of outdoor experiences and to build skills of responsibility, organisation and teamwork. Camps are run in Years 7, 8 and 9.
The students experience a one night team building camp in a town nearby. The camp is held early in Term 1 and allows students to join in activities that promote friendship and an identity with the College.
Students in Year 8 attend a camp at Anglesea for three days (two nights) during Term 2. The camp includes various activities including canoeing, surfing and bush/beach walks.
Year 9Students are provided with an opportunity to take part in a five day wilderness-style camping experience. Students carry backpacks and hike between five different base camp locations, each campsite having a distinct environment. Students are accompanied by a teacher, parent helper/university student and an accredited outdoor education instructor. Small group emphasis ensures that students develop leadership skills, team building and personal growth through guided challenges and everyday tasks such as preparing meals and setting up campsites.
