The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial
16th Anniversary Service - On Sunday 9th February Damascus College school captains represented College at the National service at the Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial in the South Gardens at Lake Wendouree. Hannah Mroczkowski and William Smith heard moving accounts of the experiences of prisoners and their families as well as the formal address by Dr Kathryn Spurling, Research Fellow at Flinders University.
There were hymns with music by the Royal Australian Navy Band Melbourne and prayers led by Reverend John Furness. The students were a part of the significant wreath laying ceremony and the ceremony concluded the Ode, the Last Post, One minutes silence, Rouse, a Blessing and the National Anthem.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them."
