Head of the Lake

A Great Weekend at the Lake

This past Sunday, the 23rd, our Damascus College rowing team competed in the biggest regatta of the season, the Head of the Lake. Everyone competed to their best ability and definitely showcased that in the endgame of each race. The Head of the Lake regatta is the one event on the rowing calendar that is the most important for Ballarat schools as it is a chance for each school to go head to head with each other and to also showcase the support from fellow students which is shown through the spit crew cheer squads.

Our junior girls, varying from division one to division four, all raced well with the firsts and seconds coming 5th and our thirds and fourths girls getting 6th. Congratulations to all of the junior girls racing their first Head of the Lake. For our junior boys, the firsts came in strong by coming 2nd in division one and the seconds came 4th in division three. Both crews raced amazingly well against some very strong crews.

Our intermediate boy and girl crew also raced extremely well with the boys racing in division 3 and coming 3rd. Our inter girls came in strong by coming 2nd also in division 3. Both crews definitely gave it their all and got such amazing outcomes!

For our senior girls and boys, they too raced quite well with our girls coming in 4th. The girls gave it their all the whole way down and bought it home strong. For our boys, it was a really close race towards the finish with them coming 3rd by half a boat length! What a good way to go out for our year 12’s with this year being their last Head of the Lake.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our spit crew who came out and supported our rowers aging from year 10 to 12. You guys did such a great job in supporting us and we are so thankful for the amount of support you guys gave us from the sidelines. We would also like to give a shout out to Phoenix College, who came in and joined with our spit crew to cheer on Damascus College. We would also like to give one big thank you to all the parents, teaching staff and rowing coaches that came out and supported from the sidelines.

This upcoming weekend, Saturday the 29th, our Senior and Intermediate rowers are competing in the Victorian State Championships being held here in Ballarat. We wish you all good luck, with it being the last regatta of the season for some of you.

Thank you - Charlotte Ashley and Bailey Wilson Rowing Captains
