Ballarat Science Week Activities
National Science week runs from August 11 through until August 19. Please see the following for activities in and around Ballarat:-
How are you going to celebrate National Science Week this year? What about inviting family and friends to join you at one or more of the captivating public art-science events that will be on offer at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
FedUni Vet and Wildlife staff have teamed up with the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Australian Society for Parasitology to produce a nine-day exploration of the world of parasites through art. Join the fun for young and old by finding an event that suits you from one of our programs.

Family Fundays Program: Drop-in or book in to activities for younger people
Drop in at the Art Gallery of Ballarat during NSWk from Saturday 11 until Sunday 19 August to join any of the free public or family events, or to make sure of securing a place, book online

CAFÉ SCIENTIFIQUE: PARASITES - PAINTING A NEW IMAGE
Saturday 11 August 5.00pm – 6.30 pm Book online
A lively discussion about science and art with wonderful animations and curiously fascinating parasite stories. Canapés will be served and drinks are at bar prices.
BRAIN BREAK MORNING TEA
Tuesday 14 August 10.00 – 11.00am Book online
Break out your brain cells and bring them along to a fun science-themed morning tea with a few trivia questions to fire the imagination. Delicious cakes and coffees available to order from Kittelty’s Café at the gallery
CAFÉ SCIENTIFIQUE: PETS, POTS, PINTS AND PARASITES
Saturday 18 August 5.00pm – 6.30pm Book online
An entertaining evening of discussion and debate as Federation University researchers try to convince the audience of the strange beauty of parasites and how they’ve driven advances in human and animal health. Delve into this peculiar world and discover all things parasitic! Canapés will be served. The fabulous FedUni brewed Beer and other drinks are available to purchase at bar prices.
INSPIRING ILLUMINATION, CREATIVE CURIOSITY
Sunday 19 August 2.30 pm – 3.30pm Book online
Australian Institute of Physics 2018 Women in Physics speaker and UK plasma Physicist, Dr Ceri Brenner reveals the beauty behind her work with the most powerful lasers in the world, how she is inspired by the world-changing applications she and her team work on and the extreme technology she works with. Ceri’s talk will have you thinking about how artists and scientists both seek to discover beauty and truth in the universe.
SCIENCE-ART MOVIE MAKING WORKSHOP
Weekends: 11.15am – 1.00pm Book online
For young filmmakers and families to create a set, write a script and film a short movie about any science topic they like. Bring your imagination!
