Damascus Show of Force in Rowing
This past Saturday as the Damascus rowers we had our first all squad regatta with all our Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors competing in a variety of events at Lake Wendouree. With ridiculously crazy winds and a lot of rain everyone worked hard giving it their all to do the best they could!
Everyone battled it out in the harsh conditions with a few of our seniors rowing in small boats (doubles and singles) and the rest of the squad rowing in quads and fours. It was a lot of fun jumping out in the boats and trying to compete in the windy weather against all the other Ballarat crews. This is probably the first and last regatta before the six Ballarat schools come together to race again at the BAS Head of the Lake. Over the whole squad we had two wins with our Year 9 division 2 boys in a four and our Year 8 division 1 girls in a quad winning both their prelims and finals. As well as many others amongst the squad doing well and placing. Well done to all crews!
As we had boats at both the shed and finish a big shout out to Hamish Walsh for driving the school bus back and forth all day so we didn’t have to walk through the rain and big thanks to all our coaches for getting us out on the water ready to race. We'd also like to thank the staff and parents that came out and supported all our rowers, with some of them even getting wet themselves.
Thanks again - Charlotte Ashley and Bailey Wilson
