Timor Leste Immersion welcomes Ryder-Cheshire Foundation
On Tuesday 23rd October, the 2019 Timor Leste Immersion team welcomed Dianne McGrath and Andy Naus from The Ballarat Ryder Cheshire group. Ryder-Chehsire established and support Klibur Domin, in Tibar in Timor Leste. Ryder-Cheire was started by Sue Ryder and Leonard Cheshire 60 years ago to relieve suffering through to the world.
Klibur Domin is a health facility (which means in Tetum ‘sharing the love’) situated about 20km west of Dili in Timor-Leste and was set up in 1999 by Ryder-Cheshire. Each year since 2013 the Damascus College Immersion Team have visited the Klibur Domin. Its director Sr Joaquim Soares has visited Damascus College on two occasions. Our donations to the facility have been used to support their Tuberculosis and Outreach programs. TB is endemic in Timor Leste.
To acknowledge the 60 years of Ryder-Cheshire foundation in 2019 (and the 55 year story of the Ballarat group) Dianne and Andy presented the College with A Leonard Cheshire Rose. Damascus College can be proud of our association with the Ryder-Cheshire Foundation and Klibur Domin.
