Damascus College has a strong emphasis on sport, particularly on participation. The sport program caters for all students from those who want to try something new to elite athletes. Damascus students have gone on to represent Australia and play at the highest level in their chosen sports.

There are ample opportunities for students to be involved in the after school sports program which is run by the Ballarat Associated Schools (BAS).

It is the purpose of BAS to provide structured competition for the member schools to maximise the opportunities for students to participate in organised sport. Students involved in BAS sport are expected to follow the player code of conduct.

The following image displays ALL the sports on offer across the year, however Damascus College will only enter teams when we have the required numbers. If there is no mention of 'boys' or 'girls', the sport is co-ed and open to all. Junior is typically Year 7/8 students (with the exception of junior boys/girls hockey, junior boys volleyball, junior girls soccer/football/cricket, where junior in this instance is Year 7-9 students), Intermediate Year 9/10 students and Senior Year 11/12 students.

Day – Tuesday Term 2

Eligible Students – Boys and Girls in Years 7 to 12

Venue – Ken Kay Stadium, Dowling Street, Wendouree

Uniform – Full Damascus College sports uniform

Equipment – If students have their own badminton racquet, then they are welcome to bring it. If not, a racquet will be supplied by the school each game day

Day – Wednesday Term 1

Eligible Students – Boys and Girls in Years 7 to 9

Venue – Prince of Wales Reserve, Gillies St, Ballarat

Uniform – Full Damascus College sports uniform

Equipment – None required

Term 1
Junior Girls Basketball (Year 7 and 8 girls), Thursday

Term 2
Intermediate Girls Basketball (Year 9 and 10 girls), Thursday

Term 1
Year 7/8 Boys Cricket, Tuesday

  • This is dual pitch and targeted at students who DON’T play cricket outside of school. This is for those who want to learn the skills and rules of the game

3rd Boys Cricket (Year 9 and 10), Wednesday

  • This is open to Year 7-10 students who DO play cricket outside of school (or have played before), know how to bowl and can confidently bat and face a hard ball

2nd XI Boys Cricket (Years 9 to 12), Thursday
Senior Girls Cricket (Years 10 to 12), Thursday

Term 4
Junior Girls Cricket (Years 7 to 9), Thursday
2nd XI Boys Cricket (Years 9 to 12), Thursday (continued in term 1 the following year)

Venue – Away format. Venues change between Victoria Park, SPC, BHS, BCC and BG

Uniform – Students will be required to wear their Damascus College sports top and cricket whites

Equipment – Students are welcome to bring their own cricket gear, including pads, box, bat, helmet and gloves. Some cricket gear can be supplied by the school

Day – Wednesday Term 4

Eligible Students – Boys and Girls in Years 7 to 12

Venue – Alexandra Croquet Club, Prince of Wales Park, Gillies St, Ballarat

Uniform – Full Damascus College sports uniform

Equipment – None required

Uniform – Full Damascus College sports uniform, plus Damascus College football socks which will be available for purchase from the sports department. Shin guards and mouth guards are compulsory

Equipment – Mouthguards and shin pads are compulsory

Training - Students will train at the Prince of Wales Park at 4.00pm each Monday. Students will travel by bus to the Prince of Wales Park. Students are to be picked up from the venue no later than 5.00pm. Full Damascus College sports uniform is also required for training sessions.

Day – Monday Term 1

Eligible Students – Boys and Girls in Years 7 to 12

Venue – City Oval, Webbcona, Central Wendouree, Ballarat Memorial and Sebastopol Bowling Club

Uniform – Full Damascus College sports uniform

Equipment – None required. Bowls will be provide to schools by their affiliated BRBA club

Day – Tuesday Term 4

Venue – Mt Clear Secondary College (enter off Recreation Rd)

Uniform – Full Damascus College sports uniform

Equipment – Mountain bike and helmet. Bikes can be borrowed on the night if required

Term 2

Uniform – Junior and Intermediate competitions (Years 7 to 10 students) are required to wear their full Damascus College sports uniform. Students in the 1st – 4th competition will be loaned a Damascus College netball dress for the term
