Damascus College is Ballarat’s largest Catholic co-educational secondary school, offering a rich and progressive learning environment inspired by the Catholic faith and Mercy values. The College has just opened the Xavier Flood Senior Learning Centre designed to inspire and engage our senior students and a Year 8 Program at our St Brendan’s Campus in Dunnstown. We are also implementing an Instructional Model. This is a wonderful opportunity for an educator committed to engaging staff and students in exceptional learning that empowers all to achieve excellence.

We are currently inviting applications from suitably qualified secondary education leaders for the role of Assistant Principal – Learning & Teaching. Reporting to the Deputy Principal, this role will lead the design, delivery and continuous improvement of learning and teaching programs across the College.

Key Responsibilities of the role include:

• Actively lead and model the Catholic and Mercy ethos in all facets of school life

• Lead the development and evaluation of the College’s teaching and learning program and ensuring the implementation of the College’s Instructional Model

• Oversee key academic leaders, including Curriculum & Assessment, Learning Area Leaders and Student Growth & Engagement

• Oversee assessment, reporting, and subject selection processes

• Coordinate whole school professional learning aligned with the College’s Strategic Plan

• Fulfil the role of a highly competent classroom practitioner committed to professional growth and improved student outcomes

• Maintain strong partnerships with families and the broader community

• A member of the College Leadership Team that is student focussed and collaborative

The successful applicant will be an outstanding leader, effective change manager and role model with demonstrated ability to nurture positive relationships and wellbeing outcomes for all students and staff.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

• Current VIT registration

• Strong school leadership experience including creating and leading cohesive high performing teams

• Demonstrated capacity to lead strategic and operational initiatives with a focus on effective change management

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Curriculum, VCE, and VCE/VM programs

• A proven commitment to ongoing professional learning in contemporary pedagogy

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage staff and community members

• Postgraduate qualifications related to learning and teaching leadership and/or curriculum development are desirable
