22 October
There was a wonderful sense of warmth, joy and connection across Damascus College on Thursday 23 July, as we welcomed more than 200 grandparents and grandfriends for our annual Grandparents and Grandfriends Day.
The morning began with a beautiful liturgy in the Mercy Chapel, bringing together generations in a celebration of faith, family and the special relationships that enrich the lives of our young people. Led by our Year 7 students, with music from the College Choir, the liturgy provided an opportunity to reflect on the love, wisdom, encouragement and guidance that grandparents and grandfriends bring to our lives.
The celebrations continued with morning tea in the Damascus Events Centre, where guests enjoyed time together, catching up with family, making new connections and sharing stories.
A particularly special moment came as Year 7 students Beau Barfoot and Violeta Guzzoni shared their reflections, including a heartfelt poem from Violeta, reminding us of the important place grandparents and grandfriends hold in our families and communities.
Throughout the morning, students from Years 7 to 12 demonstrated wonderful hospitality, assisting with welcoming guests, leading tours, serving morning tea and helping ensure everyone felt part of the Damascus community.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Catholic Culture Team, College Choir, staff and student volunteers who helped make the morning such a memorable occasion.
Most importantly, thank you to the grandparents and grandfriends who joined us. Your love, encouragement and presence in the lives of our young people are gifts that extend far beyond the classroom. We are grateful for the important role you play in our Damascus community and look forward to welcoming you again next year.
