From Assistant Principals
15 October By Naomi Olthof, Assistant Principal - Learning and Teaching
Welcome back to Term 4! I hope everyone from the Damascus College community enjoyed a restful break and are ready for what promises to be an exciting and busy term ahead.
This week is a significant one for our community as our Year 12 students complete their final classes. It has been a privilege to watch them grow throughout the year, and I want to take this opportunity to congratulate them on their commitment, resilience, and hard work.
Over the holidays, our VCE students completed trial exams to help prepare for their final assessments. These exams play an important role in identifying areas for refinement and in building confidence under exam conditions. I commend our students for their focus and dedication during this period.
Although formal classes are now finishing, our teachers remain available to meet with students, go over practice exams, provide feedback, and continue offering guidance in the lead-up to the final exams. Many subjects are also holding revision sessions, and I encourage all students to make the most of these opportunities.
This week, we also celebrated the opening of the VCE Visual Arts & Technology Exhibition on Tuesday evening. It was wonderful to see so many students, parents, carers, families, and staff come together to celebrate the incredible talent within our community.
The exhibition is the culmination of a year’s dedication, creativity, and perseverance. It provides our Visual Arts and Technology students with a valuable opportunity to showcase their work in a public space and to share their artistic journeys with others. Each piece on display represents not only skill but also imagination and growth, and our students should be immensely proud of their achievements.
The exhibition is being held in the DEC and will remain open until Monday, 20 October. I encourage all to visit and experience the outstanding work of our students firsthand.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our senior students the very best, whether they are preparing for exams, moving into employment, beginning apprenticeships, or taking a gap year. Each of these paths represents an exciting new chapter, and we are so proud of the way our students are approaching their futures with courage and purpose.
Finally, I want to thank our teachers, parents/carers and the wider Damascus community for the ongoing support and encouragement they continue to provide each and every day.
